How much space do I need?
Just a small desk or bench. This course is designed for minimal home setups.
Do I need to use a torch or kiln to make jewellery with wax?
No - just a soldering iron.
Do I have to cast the metal myself at home?
No, you only sculpt the wax and send it to a local casting house. They pour the metal and send back your raw jewellery for you to refine.
How do I find a casting house?
I provide recommendations for your country, plus guidance and templates to contact them.
What tools do I need to start wax carving jewellery?
All you need to begin is a soldering iron, jeweller’s wax, and a mandrel. Your toolkit will grow as your skills do.
What happens when I get my jewellery back from the casting house?
You’ll receive your design in raw metal form. Then you’ll do the final steps at home, sanding, polishing, and setting stones.
Is stone setting included in the lost wax jewellery course?
You’ll learn prong (claw) setting, bezel setting, and how to cast with stones in place.
How much does it cost to cast a ring with a casting house?
It depends on the metal and the casting house. A silver ring can start at around $20 AUD, gold is more expensive, and brass or bronze are very cheap options for practice.
