Traditional Wax Carving Kit
This kit is designed for creating jewellery using traditional wax carving techniques. Start with a solid wax tube, then saw, file and carve away the wax to shape your design. Unlike the wax build-up method, where wax is added and sculpted using a soldering iron, traditional wax carving is where you remove and shape wax from a solid piece of wax. Once you carve your designs, simply send your wax models to a casting house to be transformed into solid metal such as brass, bronze, silver or gold.

The kit includes enough wax to create multiple designs. For most beginners, the wax should last several weeks to months, depending on how often you’re practising and the size of your designs.
Yes. The online wax carving course can be purchased with this kit and includes a wealth of knowledge for beginners. Please note that the course is more heavily focused on the wax build-up method using a soldering iron, with less focus on traditional wax carving techniques.
Everyone’s setup is different, but beginners may find it helpful to have a metal baking tray to work over and a bench vice or a mandrel holder to support the mandrel while shaping rings. These items are optional and not required to begin.
A face mask (such as a 3M multipurpose mask), good ventilation, and working near an open window or fan are recommended when sculpting wax. A well-ventilated workspace is ideal.
No. This kit is designed for wax sculpting and carving only, which is the first stage of the lost wax jewellery making process. Casting is completed separately through a casting house.
No. You only need a wax sculpting kit (traditional carving kit or organic build-up kit) to begin. As this covers the first stage of the lost wax jewellery making process, designing and sculpting in wax. The metal refining kit is only needed later, once your designs have been returned from the casting house in metal form.

No. Metal Bones does not teach the investment casting process. The course covers how to prepare your wax designs and outsource the casting process to a professional casting house.
