Artist Spotlight: Buse Lewis the Lost Wax Jeweller

Buse is a current Metal Bones student with a love for raw, organic jewellery and creating unique pieces through wax carving. We recently caught up with Buse to hear more about the journey and inspiration behind the designs.

How did you first get into wax jewellery making?

I have a very allergic skin and I can't wear anything apart from silver, titanium or gold. I used to make my own jewelry even as a kid, and I wanted to make my own rings just for fun. And I found out about wax jewelry making.

What style of wax jewellery do you love creating most?

I love that i can create raw looking jewelry. I like being able to create something out of nothing.

What has your wax jewellery journey been like so far?

It's been stressful but also fun. Its sometimes a challenge, especially if I mess things up, but I always learn from them too so i don't hate it.

What is your favourite wax design you’ve created and why?

This recent custom ring that I made featuring a raw emerald, peridot, chalcedony, and an amethyst. We wanted to go for a raw look with patina and its a beautiful statement piece. I had so much fun building and carving the wax. It was amazing to see how the wax turned into this metal.

What advice would you give to someone nervous to start wax carving?

Just give it a go and have fun. Wax carving is all about having fun and practice.

What did you enjoy most about the metal bones lost wax jewellery course?

The fact that its got a very active community and that the lessons kept getting updated.
