How to Make Lost Wax Jewellery at Home

Wax carving (lost wax) is a process where you sculpt your design in wax, then have it professionally cast into metal. A casting facility turns your wax model into solid metal (silver, gold), which you refine by sanding, polishing, and setting stones. Your design process is still completely handmade, just without needing to work with molten metal or high-risk tools.
The Lost Wax Process
STEP 1
Sculpt your design in wax at home (rings, pendants, earrings + more)
STEP 2
Send it to a local casting facility to turn it into metal (silver, gold, brass or bronze)
STEP 3
Receive your piece and refine the raw metal (polish and set stones)

Wax Carving Jewellery Course FAQs

Yes. This process is very intuitive, and you’ll be surprised how quickly it opens up your creativity and imagination.
Very little. You can work from a small desk or workspace at home, no studio required.
Yes. This process works worldwide. I’ll show you how to find and work with local casting facilities, and I provide tool and supplier recommendations for Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Europe, and the UK.
You’ll have access to support and a private student group where you can ask questions and get help as you learn.
The casting process is called investment casting. A casting facility takes your wax design, creates a mould around it, melts the wax out, and replaces it with solid metal such as silver, brass, bronze, or gold.
This depends on your design. Most pieces cost around $30–$150 AUD to cast in sterling silver, depending on size and weight. I’ll also show you how to keep casting costs down and how to estimate and understand your casting fees.
The video lessons are broken into short, digestible clips and filmed from my point of view, so you can see exactly what I see and follow along easily. It’s like working with me and looking over my shoulder.
You only need a small set of beginner-friendly tools to get started. I provide a full tool list with trusted suppliers for Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Europe, and the UK. You can view the free wax tools guide before joining.
